GREEN MEDIA SUMMIT CONFERENCE AGENDA LUXE HOTEL SUNSET BOULEVARD 8:30 am: Registration Opens/Continental Breakfast 9:00 – 9:15 a.m. Introduction: “Sustainability Challenges and Opportunities” (title not confirmed) Bob Chapek, President, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Chairman, DEG 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. The keynote address will cover what every executive must know to manage the environmental challenges facing business and society in order to generate lasting value -- cutting costs, reducing risk, driving new revenues, and creating strong brands -- by building environmental thinking into their core business strategies. With a clear focus on execution, Esty will provide a road map for the home entertainment industry to establish its Eco-advantage. 10:15 - 10:45 a.m. Networking Break/Exhibits Open 10:45 – 11:15 a.m. Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has become the Gold Standard for measuring, mitigating, and managing greenhouse gas footprints as the first step for developing an environmental strategy. The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an independent not for profit organization which acts as a secretariat for over 38 of the world’s largest institutional investors, holding over $57 trillion and assets under management. Each year CDP requests disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions from corporations on behalf of their investors. Member companies include Wal-mart and News Corporation. The speaker will discuss why investors are looking for disclosure of climate-related risks. Furthermore, she will demonstrate why it is relevant to the media industry, which has power to influence millions of people as to the importance of this kind of accounting. Finally, the importance of supply chain as the next big step in this field of work will be discussed. 11:15 – 12:00 p.m.Panel Session: “DVD Supply Chain Carbon Footprint Analysis” Speakers: The supply-chain impacts of a DVD -- defined as a single disc, packaged in a hard case that includes a lithograph sleeve, with one printed promotional leaflet inside the DVD case -- will be presented. Results will be presented of the analysis conducted in collaboration with Clear Carbon Consulting using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, developed by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development 12:00 – 12:30 p.m. What else is going on at the studio level. How does home entertainment fit into the overall in the greening of Hollywood – from the back lot to broadcast, and everywhere in between. 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Each lunch table will be hosted by one of our presenters and/or panelists who will lead the luncheon group through a focused update and discussion 1:30 – 2:15 p.m. What do our retail partners expect from us and what are they doing within their own businesses to create a greener environment for the world at large and for their employees. 2:15 – 2:30 p.m. Broader awareness of climate change concerns and higher energy costs have given business and government leaders new perspectives on their responsibilities. The SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to address these concerns with a public-private initiative focused on improving the fuel efficiency of goods movement throughout the supply chain. SmartWay helps business leaders to ensure more sustainable transportation while providing recognition for industry-leading best practices. 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. What about downloads? With server farms putting new demands on our energy reserves, the overall information technology ecosystem and its implications for the Greening of IT will be presented, in addition to the sustainability characteristics of e-commerce and digital distribution. Research shows that the current emphasis on data center power consumption and more efficient personal computers has been too narrow for the single biggest driver of the IT industry is inherently not very green. It is the constant improvement and rapid obsolescence of IT hardware that stems from Moore’s Law that is the real environmental challenge. 3:00 – 3:15 p.m. Network Break 3:15 - 3:30 p.m. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a non-profit trade organization that promotes sustainability in how buildings are designed, built and operated. The USGBC is best known for the development of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. This presentation will describe the various elements of the decision-making process regarding a green corporate sustainability policy. They include issues related to first costs, ROI issues, and making the ongoing commitment to follow-up activities that support long-term operating efficiency. 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Caucus 1: Pursuit of Green Packaging & Retail Display Caucus 2: Looking for Energy Efficiency in Transportation Caucus 3: Searching for Sustainability in the Manufacturing Process Moderator: Lance Williams, U.S. Green Building Council 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. Leading home entertainment executives will share the findings of their recent-daylong summit to create an industry-wide agenda for environmental issues. Presenters will share a high-level blueprint for future initiatives. Speaker(s) 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. DEG will present the first annual Green Media Awards (GMAs), designed to credit innovation in environmental design, practices and education. |
