BIO:Michael V. Kuptz, Vice President & General Manager, Lenovo Group Limited

Michael Kuptz is Vice President & General Manager with Lenovo Group Limited. He has responsibility for Americas Consumer Business Group, (CBG). The General Manager of CBG is responsible for the launch of Lenovo’s Consumer Products in the Americas. All functional lines of business; finance, marketing, sales, service & support operations, product management and human resources are aligned within CBG. Previously, he served as the Vice President & General Manager of the US Channel, Mid-Market and Transactional Business. These businesses generated over $2.6B annual sales and were one of the highest revenue and profit growth segments within Lenovo. Michael came to Lenovo from IBM's Personal Computer Division (PCD) and was part of the Lenovo Acquisition of IBM’s Personal Computer Division in May 2005. 

Mr. Kuptz spent 20 years at IBM. His IBM career included numerous executive and management positions within IBM’s portfolio of offerings. System hardware and software  sales, product development, server brand management and brand marketing. Key assignments were in hard disk drive manufacturing and development located in San Jose, CA and Fujisawa, Japan. His experience spans; channel sales, global brand management, small and medium business and retail and distribution channel marketing. He has managed industry solution teams in Finance, Higher Education, Public Sector and Transportation. In 1999, Michael led the sales & operation team that launched the world's smallest hard disk drive, the IBM Microdrive. International experience was gained through business  relationships in Germany, Netherlands, Taiwan, China, Malaysia and Japan.

He holds degrees in Economics and Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He attended San Diego State University, (SDSU). He served as guest instructor of Computer Science and Application Design at California State University in Fresno (CSUF). 

He served as Chairman of the Board, California Cooperative Work Experience, (CCWE)  and Mentoring Director for IISME summer fellowships through IBM’s Almaden Research Lab. He is the ex-officio President of the St. Isidore School Foundation. He currently serves as Coordinator of CYO sports within the Archdiocese of Oakland.

Michael is active in youth sports as a coach, referee and director. He lives in Danville, California with his wife and children.
